Principal Business Analyst - Job Role & Responsibilities

The Principal Business Analyst performs a crucial role within the Product Management team to create and maintain a strategic relationship between the business partners and the Network, Technology and Operations team. The incumbent will become the subject matter expert for Surescripts products.

The Principal Business Analyst works with members of the product innovation team, Surescripts business leaders, and Surescripts customers to discover, define and communicate business processes and workflow, and develop business requirements for new and existing products. The incumbent leads elaboration of business ideas in support of business and product prioritization processes to assure effective translation to architectural, system analyst and other technical staff. The incumbent provides oversight as the product moves through the development process, pilots, early adopters, and general availability. The Principal Business Analyst works closely with the systems analysts, engineering team and QA teams to represent the voice of the business in the definition of detailed requirements for new products and enhancements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead work with internal and external representatives to document the following, for new products and product enhancements.
    • Business Workflow and Process Diagrams
    • Business Use Cases (High-level product business requirements)
    • Business Requirements
    • Other business documents as required
  • Leverage best practices in user-centered design to ensure requirements meet the needs of end users in Surescripts products.
  • Demonstrate expertise in products adjacent or related to the assigned product(s).
  • Provide guidance and influence over team members and project team members from both business and IT organizations.
  • Collaborate with project/team manager to share knowledge and findings, including communication of progress, milestones, challenges against plan, and escalation of issues.
  • Present and lead review discussions of the above documents; finalize documents for walkthrough and communication to the development teams
  • Work with systems analysts to help create detailed business requirements and technical system requirements.
  • Consult with product analysts to identify design considerations as well as business issues or enhancements requiring further product development.
  • Identify data analysis requirements as inputs to the definition of business requirements.
  • Provide oversight to development ensuring development goals and timelines are met, and escalate project and business management as needed.
  • Create requirements for complex reporting solutions to meet business needs while working with business partners as well as other external/technology partners
  • Provide product direction and support internally and externally
  • Ability to comprehend the core standard and other relevant standard impacting the product(s) to provide guidance to development as well as aid in internal documentation
  • Participate in product rollout, pilots and beta testing and business participant workshops
  • Lead user acceptance testing of the completed product and track defined requirements.
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to junior business analysts
  • Provide input into enhancing business analysis processes and deliverables
Principal Business Analyst - Job requirements

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • 8+ years of experience in related, progressive roles
  • 5+ years of experience as a business analyst, system analyst or quality analyst; or experience in a position where understanding health care business requirements and product is key
  • 5+ years of training or experience in creating use cases, business modeling and business requirements
  • 5+ years of experience in driving projects independently

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in technology field
  • Change management experience
  • Experience in B2B / e-commerce transaction processing
  • Experience in industry standards such as NCPDP, X12, HL7, FHIR
  • Technical support; QA or systems analyst experience
  • Training or experience with software development life cycle processes, including Agile development

At Surescripts, base pay is one part of our Total Rewards Package (which may also include bonus, benefits etc.) and is determined within a range. The base pay range for this position is $129,800 - $158,600 per year. Your base pay may vary within or outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including (but not limited to) your qualifications, skills, experience, and location.
