Business Analyst, Finance - Job Role & Responsibilities

The Business Analyst - Finance will report directly to the Director, IT Financial Systems. They will work with Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology, and other departments within Year Up to gather, analyze, and validate requirements and assist in reviewing, analyzing and evaluating business systems and user needs. They will work as a liaison among stakeholders in order to elicit and understand the structure, policies, and operations of an organization, and to recommend solutions that enable the organization to achieve its goals.

You are someone who is skilled at anticipating the needs of others and proactively takes on new challenges to support business needs, with a continued focus on planning, documentation, analysis, and preparing for growth. You’ll enjoy and be motivated by cross-functional collaboration within the Enterprise Applications team to support and improve the employee experience. As an ideal candidate for this position, you will have a technical background in Financial and Accounting systems, and strong communication and business analysis skills.

As part of their work, the Business Analyst (Finance) will also have the opportunity to interact with students as a mentor, group facilitator, and advocate, participating in Year Up’s mission.

Key Responsibilities

Systems and Strategy

  • Communicate effectively with business partners in collaboration with IT Project Manager to identify needs and evaluate alternative business solutions
  • Works independently to document requirements, business processes, and data models
  • Works in collaboration with IT Project Manager to formulate recommendations to support project scope and objectives and ensure mutual expectations with business partners
  • Create requirements, specifications, business processes, data mapping, and test cases related to proposed solution(s)
  • Develop and partner with IT colleagues to develop complex functional requirements and system design specifications to enable integration and automation across platforms, including NetSuite, Salesforce and other systems
  • Manage backlog of platform enhancements across Finance applications
  • Help drive business partner satisfaction by providing regular updates on active work, proactively identifying ways to improve services, and developing action plans needed to address improvement areas
  • Provide Tier 1 support for enterprise applications as needed; System administration is a portion of this role

Teamwork

  • Assist the project team with platform release testing and application maintenance activities
  • Facilitate periodic meetings with Finance platform support vendors including setting agendas, publishing support meeting minutes, and tracking of open vendor platform cases

Site Team/Learning Community Member

  • Serve as a coach/mentor for a small number of current students
  • Join and sometimes facilitate weekly group sessions with students
  • Participate in staff meetings and trainings
Business Analyst, Finance - Job requirements

Qualifications

  • 4-6 years of experience with Financial Systems required
  • 4-6 years of Business Analysis experience preferred
  • Familiarity with Oracle NetSuite, Concur Expense, Invoice & Travel, and/or Adaptive Insights preferred
  • Financial system/application certification(s) a plus
  • Ability to critically evaluate complex information gathered from multiple sources, create detailed specs from high-level information, abstract up from low-level information, and distinguish user requests from the underlying business needs
  • Experience in enterprise-wide ERP and Financial requirements definition, management systems, and methodologies
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a matrix organization
  • Strong analytical skills, including a thorough understanding of how to interpret customer business needs and translate them into application and operational requirements
  • Familiarity with application programming, database, and system design
  • Commitment to continued professional development and growth
  • Comfort with change in a fast-moving environment

Salary Range: $80,000 - $102,667

Compensation & Benefits

  • Year Up has established salary ranges for each of our sites, which allows us to pay employees competitively, equitably and consistently in different geographic markets. For roles in which the location is listed as flexible, the range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Salary offers take into account a candidate’s skills, experience, and location. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your location during the hiring process.

  • Vacation: Earn three weeks paid vacation in first year of employment; four weeks after initial year.
