Business Analyst - Job Role & Responsibilities

Reporting to the IT Manager, the Business Analyst is responsible for coordinating user requests and/or program initiatives for new or modified application programs. The business analyst determines the implementation requirements of any project, report, database requests and provide the deliverables time and provides application design and development support as well as user acceptance testing. Also, the business analyst is expected to be the liaison between our operations and our client and other vendors related to system issues and/or system defects; therefore, it is expected for the business analyst to understand the daily business process . In addition, business analyst designs and develops reports for program and contract monitoring. Qualified candidates will bring forward innovative strategies for operational improvements.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for creating, executing, and maintaining operational databases and reports.
  • Develop detailed understanding of business processes and application software.
  • Participates in the design of application software based on business requirements and processes. Evaluate the effectiveness of current systems and identify the need for improvements along with recommending solutions.
  • Create effective, efficient test plans and perform complete testing that result in accurate processing of all data.
  • Coordinate and write manuals to describe for users the installation and operating procedures for computer programs.
  • Analyze and resolve problems with operations and application, including being a liaison to clients.
  • Conversion of project specifications into functional specifications, including the use of flowcharts and diagrams that show detailed instructions and logical steps for conversion to programming specifications. Apply knowledge of computer programming techniques and computer languages.
  • Formulate plans outlining steps required to develop programs, using structured analysis and design. Submit plans to management and users for approval.
  • Prepares monthly operations calendar.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Access; especially as a front-end reporting tool
  • Proficiency in Excel a must
  • Knowledge of SQL (Oracle/SQL Server). Oracle PL/SQL desired
  • Knowledge of HTML and Web Page desired
  • Ability to organize work, set priorities, remain flexible and adapt to change.
  • Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to problem solve through analysis and ongoing feedback.
  • Ability to achieve results through knowledge, commitment, and attention to detail and to meet established deadlines.
  • Ability to work with limited direction.
  • Ability to be the liaison with other vendors and our client by understanding the business flow of our organization and our current operations process.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Services, Computer Science or related field or Associates Degree in similar field with 5 years’ experience. Minimum of 1 to 2 years’ work experience in application development ideally including 1 year of application design experience or 3 years in general business experience with demonstrated progressive technical skills.
