Business Analyst - Job Role & Responsibilities

Selective Insurance has an exciting opportunity for a Sr. Business Analyst to join our IT organization. As a member of a scrum team, you will be responsible for breaking features into stories after the Product Owners have broken the Epics down into features that technology teams can execute on. This role will work on large and/or complex epics. This role will also work closely with business stakeholders on change management and product adoption plans, as well as assisting with testing.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Product Owners to schedule and facilitate business requirements gathering sessions with business groups on large, complex and/or strategic epics – conducting stakeholder interviews, requirements workshops, backlog refinement sessions, etc., in order to document requirements, validate existing requirements and create new user stories. This also includes statutory requirements.
  • Identifying and build relationships with all necessary stakeholders for various projects. This may include Product Owners, Product Managers, IT team, etc.
  • Support developers and testers through the prioritization of user stories. Mentors more junior business analysts and associate business analysts.
  • Document and manage requirements documentation (Features, User Stories, Business Requirements Document, Use Case Document), for different types of work (initiatives, enhancements, regulatory, support, break-fix, etc.) ensuring quality and completeness of all deliverables and obtaining necessary signoffs
  • Document system changes and conduct training on system changes.
  • Initiate peer review discussions and incorporate feedback into requirement documents.
  • Tracks tasks and accurately provides time estimates for tasks and requirement estimations. Participate in all AGILE ceremonies and activities, while also contributing to demos.
  • Conduct requirements walkthrough with development and testing teams. Ensure clarification and understanding on all requirements and obtain sign-off.
  • Review coverage of test conditions and prioritize test scenarios for QA team.
  • Act as mentor to Associate Business Analysts and more junior Business Analysts to ensure their understanding of processes, procedures, development, etc. Ability to work and influence successfully within a matrix environment and build effective partnerships with all levels of the team members. Demonstrate strong functional familiarity knowledge of Insurance Solutions to marry technical architecture to business system requirement and ability to drive UAT.

Qualifications

  • College degree in related field or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in a business analysis role, and/or 3+ years insurance line of business, systems analysis, agile team, or other IT expertise, along with 2 years of business analysis
  • Experience in an Agile environment and knowledge of Agile methodology & frameworks
  • PEGA domain knowledge is preferred

Salary range: $80,000 - $132,100. The actual base salary is based on geographic location, and the range is representative of salaries for this role throughout Selective's footprint. Additional considerations include the candidate's qualifications and experience.
