Business Analyst - Job Role & Responsibilities

The Global Business Intelligence team is responsible for driving the Firm’s data culture and vision, and implementing a coherent and innovative strategy for the management of data and the use of business intelligence throughout the firm. Working alongside data governance and development teams, our Business Analysis team is the main interface with the Firm for all the Firm’s internal business intelligence requirements. It is responsible for maintaining the Firm’s existing framework of business analysis, including standard and ad-hoc analysis, while working in collaboration with our BI developers in transitioning to, promoting and supporting the Firm’s business intelligence tools, including Power BI.

Under the guidance of the Business Analysis Manager, The Business Analyst will closely align with key business units across the Firm to work in partnership with stakeholders to gather, define, and validate requirements. They will be required to work collaboratively across our team to manage projects through our delivery process to help us answer key business questions through analysis, data visualizations, and predictive modelling. They will be required to expand their knowledge and skill-set to various functional areas of expertise - including Finance, HR/People, BD & Marketing and Knowledge - to support the development of clear requirements for new automated, standardized dashboards and detailed analysis. The Business Analyst will take ownership of backlog items within the Agile development cycle and ensure a consistently positive experience for stakeholders.

Duties and Accountabilities

  • Partner with key stakeholders accurately define, and gather requirements from business stakeholders.
  • Gather and understand key business pain points and translate that within our team into work items for further development
  • Acquire a good understanding of the firm’s business model, and organization to become a trusted analyst for reporting and business intelligence.
  • Learn the key data structures, data definitions, and tools that are available to deliver the requirements
  • Identify pain-points in the data, document appropriately and communicate them effectively within the BI group.
  • Collaborate extensively with the shared services team to innovate and improve quality, process optimization and streamlined delivery.
  • Work with stakeholders to drive engagement with the Firm’s existing BI tools through training and outreach.
  • Be a champion of utilizing Power BI in the firm, delivering demonstrations of your work and identifying further opportunities for more projects that closely align with our strategy
  • Manage your projects through by collaborating with our multi skilled team to deliver products that drive a data driven culture
Business Analyst - Job requirements

Qualifications

  • 2+ years’ experience in hands-on business analysis, requirements gathering, and stakeholder management, with experience in an international law firm preferred
  • Experience in gathering requirements and delivering projects for reporting, analytical projects, and more advanced BI opportunities (such as predictive models) is preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree (Computing, Information Science, Business, Finance, Accounting, HR, Marketing) or equivalent experience
  • Understanding of both the global economic environment as well as local markets relevant to the firm’s business, including a familiarity with the firm’s key clients, geographies and industries
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Flexible self-starter comfortable with tackling new projects independently while also being able to take direction from senior staff
  • Ability to quickly learn new software and technologies
  • Ability to work independently in a team environment, effectively manage time and tight deadlines; able to multitask

Location and Reporting

  • This is a hybrid in-office/remote role based in our New York office.
  • This role reports to the Senior Manager, Business Analysis.
